The mutagenic action of formaldehyde on bacteria.

چکیده

Rapoport (1946), Kaplan (1948), and Auerbach (1949) found formaldehyde highly mutagenic for Drosophila when administered with its food. Auerbach (1949), however, observed negative results when Drosophila was exposed to formaldehyde vapor and concluded that formaldehyde acts indirectly through chemical changes brought about in food constituents. Dickey, Cleland, and Lotz (1949) found formaldehyde and a mixture of formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide mutagenic for Neurospora crassa. This paper will report investigations on the mutagenic effect of formaldehyde on bacteria.

تصفیه فاضلاب مصنوعی آلوده به فرمالدیید به وسیله ی راکتور متوالی ناپیوسته بی هوازی بیوفیلمی

Background and Aim: Formaldehyde is an organic chemical with widespread applications as a raw material in many industries. Industrial effluents with high contents of formaldehyde should be treated because of their carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of the anaerobic sequence batch biofilm reactor (ASBBR) for formaldehyde biodegradation. ...

Mutagenic action of triose reductone and ascorbic acid on Salmonella typhimurium AT 100 strain.

In order to investigate the functions of reductones, their mutagenic action was studied with and without cupric ion using Salmo nella typhimurium TA 100 strain. Triose reductone (TR), which has the simplest enediol structure among reductones, induced a notable frequency of his+ revertants at 2.5 or 5mM. The addition of cupric ion to TR at a molar ratio of 1:1,000 lowered the most active concent...

SENSITIZING OF GENOME OF WELSH ONION (Allium fistulosum L.) BY ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

An effect of environment on the sensitivity of welsh onion genome to provocative mutagenesis with formaldehyde was studied. Seeds of welsh onion were collected from plants grown at localities with different values of ecological impact “bad”, “middle” and “good”. Seeds (at the 19th month of storage) from three localities were germinated in formaldehyde solution (0,0004%) or in distilled water as...
